MAC addresses are also known as hardware addresses or physical addresses. They uniquely identify an adapter on a local area network. MAC addresses are 12-digit hexadecimal numbers (48 bits in length).

1)??Firstly lets boot up Backtrack and open up a terminal.
2)??To check our current MAC address type,??ifconfig??and press the Enter key.??(Shown Below)
3)??Now we need to shut down the network interface to do this type :??ifconfig wlan0 down. If you are using eth0, then change the wlan0 to eth0.
4)??Ok lets proceed to changing our MAC address, to do this type :??macchanger ???mac 66:66:66:66:66:66 wlan0??. You may change the MAC address numbers to whatever you feel like changing it too.??(Shown Below)
5)??Now as shown below, lets start up the network by typing :??ifconfig wlan0 up.??(Shown Below)
6)??And lets check our new fake MAC address by typing :??ifconfig??(Shown Below)
Yes we have successfully spoofed our MAC address! And yes it is that simple!
7)??To use the??Random??Mac assigner type :??macchanger -r wlan0
