evastating news out of Syria

My old friend and battle buddy Jac Holmes (Sores) has fallen in Raqqa.

One of the foul legacy mines left by the Islamic State took his life as he made an area safe for civilians. Jac was a much loved and respected soldier of the YPG. He embraced both the Kurdish language and the culture of Rojava. This was his third tour of Syria and he was determined to see Raqqa liberated.

Jac was the perfect volunteer. He did his time on the front and earned the respect of his peers. He spoke passionately online and in the media about the plight of the Kurds and why the world needs to help them. The loss of our hero Jac is going to feel like a knife in the heart to thousands of people all around the world.

The British and Kurdish hero – Eric Konstandinos Scurfield – once said: ‘Life is not measured in years but by the deeds of men’. Jac lived a full and heroic life. He went to Syria to battle the brutal Islamic State but also to find himself. In the love and comradery of the YPG he shone like a star! Few can claim a better legacy than the defeat of ISIS and the respect of the Kurdish people.

You were the best of us Jac. Your name and memory will live forever amongst our fallen heroes.

Much love
